Naomi – Her name means “My Joy” and suggests attractiveness. Her manner of life so appealing that Ruth her daughter-in-law told her “Your people shall be my people and your God, my God” (Ruth 1:16). Our lives should be so compelling that we attract people to God.

Deborah – A “Bee” which not only signifies her intelligence but a practical demonstration of her faith in God. While there is no record of her biological motherhood, her leadership and love for God described herself as a “Mother in Israel” (Judges 5:7). Our lives should be a living example of having a care for people.

Anna – “Favor”, or “Grace”, Waited hopefully for the One through whom Grace and Truth would come. Her dedication to God had no parameters, for she attended services night and day in the temple (Luke 2:37). Our lives should express a constant and consistent faith in God.

Mary – (Mother of Jesus) – Her name connotes “Bitter Experiences”. Indeed no grief could have been more intense than Mary’s when she witnessed the murder of her Son on the cross. But certainly her example and care for Jesus was evident, for “Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man” (Luke 2:52). Our lives should help others to grow in the Grace and Love for God.

Phoebe – means “Pure or Radiant as the Moon.” Paul referred to her as “Helpful”, which means one who stands by in case of need (Romans 16:1,2). Thus, she was unselfish and therefore conspicuous for her demonstration of love and hospitality. Our lives should demonstrate that we are ready and willing to serve.
